WOBC Targeting Practice Exam

Identifying civilian structures for observation is not a function of targeting because targeting typically focuses on military objectives, threats, and resources relevant to operational goals. The primary goal of targeting is to effectively and efficiently engage military objectives while minimizing collateral damage, which includes civilian structures. While awareness of civilian structures is essential for operational planning to avoid unnecessary harm, the task of identifying them does not fall under the core functions of targeting. In fact, it is more related to intelligence-gathering and situational awareness.

On the other hand, synchronization of intelligence and operations, determining lethal or non-lethal options, and deciding which assets to use and when are all integral components of the targeting process, aimed at maximizing the effectiveness of military operations. These functions involve careful planning and assessment to ensure that the military force can accomplish its objectives while adhering to rules of engagement and minimizing civilian impact.
